Dona Nobis Pacem - an example of a Canon

A canon is a piece of music that has similar musical segments (you can imagine them as sentences or phrases) that repeat in rounds. The most famous would probably be "Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel.

In the video below, the music is "Dona Nobis Pacem", a Latin song that has 3 musical segments. The little coloured circles represent the pitch of each tune. The higher they go, the higher the pitch. Can you see how the three segments come together to form the canon?

Let me know what you think about the video!

Lyrics to Term 2 Recess Song (You've Got a Friend)

When you’re down and troubled
And you need some love and care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there…
You’ve got a friend

If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud
Soon you’ll hear me knocking at your door

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running, running yeah, yeah…to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call….
And I’ll be there… Yes, I will…

Now, ain’t it good to know that
you’ve got a friend
When people can be so cold
They’ll hurt you
Yes and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh…but don’t you let them

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running, running yeah, yeah, yeah to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call….
And I’ll be there….
Yes, I will…you’ve got a friend......

Term 2 Recess Song - You've Got A Friend

Dear pupils,

Here's the music clip of our Recess Song for Term 2. You'll realise that this version is longer than the one which we sing to after Recess - because this version contains the "bridge" - a special section. The song ends with a repeat of the chorus.

The lyrics will be posted soon!
